The aim of the Tour de Romandie Foundation is to develop and support cycling among young people and to promote this sport in general among the public.
The objective of the "Verbier La Romandie Classic" is to allow cycling enthusiasts, bike lovers and cycle tourists to experience a day in the life of the Tour de Romandie and feel what it's like to be in a peloton in the hunt for victory!
To this end, the organisers of the Tour de Romandie, a legendary and historic event in the World Tour for 65 years, have decided with the "Verbier La Romandie Classic" to give cycling fans the chance to measure their performance against professional riders on an ascent completed by the Tour de France peloton in 2009 between Le Châble and Verbier.
So don't hesitate to join us for the second "Verbier la Romandie Classic" which will take place on Sunday 1 September 2012 between Aigle (World Cycling Centre) and Verbier (host stage of the Tour de France in 2009).
The Verbier - La Romandie Classic will start from the World Cycling Centre in honour of the International Cycling Union (UCI) and its World Cycling Centre, which every year welcomes several hundred young cyclists from around the world in receipt of a study grant awarded by Olympic Solidarity, which supervises training placements on the site.
This new collaboration between the Tour de Romandie and representatives of the development company of Verbier, Val de Bagnes and Verbier-St-Bernard is sure to give rise to more cycling projects in the future.
The Verbier association is very highly regarded by the Tour de Romandie organising committee, since this collaboration commemorates the arrival of the main stage of the 2009 Tour de France during which the great champion Alberto Contador took the yellow jersey before winning the Tour on the Champs-Elysées. As a result of the keen interest generated in July 2009 among thousands of spectators who lined the roads of the canton and the event's huge popularity, Verbier and the organiser of the Tour de Romandie have joined forces to keep alive the extraordinary atmosphere generated by cycling among the entire population, in a relaxed and friendly setting.
Let's make sure the cycling adventure continues on the hills of Verbier...
