Prologue
Villars-sur-Glâne
The municipality of Villars-sur-Glâne has nearly 50 associations, many of which are active in sports. Facing south and overlooking the Pre-Alps, it is nestled in nature and boasts many green spaces in the heart of forests and along rivers.
With just over 12,500 inhabitants, it is characterized by the diversity of its activities. Benefiting from its strategic position on the Fribourg–Bulle axis, it is home to cutting-edge companies that ensure strong economic vitality. The business park is adjacent to residential neighborhoods offering a great deal of tranquility. The municipality has all the necessary infrastructure for its population, who can lead an attractive life there, thanks in part to the presence of the Théâtre Nuithonie. A library, modern school complex, sports facilities, small shops, and shopping centers are available to residents.
The organization of the Tour de Romandie prologue fits perfectly with the dynamism of the municipality.
1ère étape
Martigny
Nestled in the crook of the Rhône, Martigny boasts a multitude of assets. Its location, environment, artistic and cultural activity, as well as its quality of life make the City of Octodure a pleasant and dynamic place that is good to live in. Crossroads of the Alps, at the foot of the Grand-St-Bernard and Forclaz passes, Martigny is an ideal starting point for beautiful road cycling or mountain biking tours.
The region abounds in diverse cultural opportunities: while the Pierre Gianadda Foundation has been making it shine across Europe for over 40 years, art and culture are everywhere, from the vestiges of ancient Octodure to the works adorning its roundabouts, including the Manoir de la Ville. Tradition is not forgotten with Barryland, an immersive and interactive museum centered around a national myth: the St. Bernard dog. Cultural and festive (with the unmissable Foire du Valais or the traditional Foire au Lard), Martigny is also a city that loves cycling and is hosting the Tour de Romandie for the twelfth time.
In the Book of Honor of Winners in Octodure, you will find 4 world champions (André Darrigade, Louison Bobet, Mario Cipollini, and Peter Sagan).
Why not a fifth this year?
2ème étape
Départ Rue
An emblematic town in the Glâne district, Rue is a medieval village gracefully spread out at the foot of its famous castle, which overlooks the upper Broye valley. Once belonging to the Lords of Rue, the small town later became Savoyard before definitively passing into Fribourg hands in 1536. It housed bailiffs and other prefects until 1848. To discover its history, the tourist office offers a fun and educational trail: the Secret Circuit Rue offers the opportunity to access austere and mysterious buildings. Stop for a while to discover this little gem. Southern Glâne is a cycling land. All enthusiasts will tell you so. In a green countryside still spared from urbanization, two-wheeled enthusiasts are in paradise! Off the asphalt, mountain bikers are also spoiled with more than 200 km of marked and well-maintained trails. As our song tells, the cobblestones will start singing. This time to welcome the Tour de Romandie. Welcome to Rue!
2ème étape
Arrivée Vucherens
VUCHERENS BY MAIN AND BY FOOT
Vucherens is a charming little village of about 650 inhabitants, located in the Jorat region and belonging to the Broye-Vully district.
The region has everything to attract athletes, nature lovers, hikers, and cyclists. Various routes can be found here: walking paths through fields and forests, the Gustave Roud trail, and even the Camino de Santiago (via Jacobi 4). The latter makes a stop (a checkpoint) at the picturesque small chapel dating back to 1737. From the highest point, near the reservoir, we can admire both the Jura and the Alps mountain ranges, with the help of the orientation table.
We are twinned with the French village of Droiturier, in the Allier region, near La Palisse. Culturally speaking, by going up the valley for 4 km, we can benefit from the rich program of the Théâtre du Jorat, nicknamed the Sublime Barn. The municipality is served by several postal bus lines connecting Moudon to Lausanne; one of the stops is located next to the municipal inn, LES TROIS SUISSES.
Finally, Vucherens appears between the Bressonne and Carrouge rivers.
The inhabitants are called CHOUETTES.
Living in Vucherens is pleasant. Its geographical location allows you to benefit from the beauty of the landscape and the tranquility of the countryside, while being a stone's throw from the Vaud and Fribourg cities.
It's a good place to live, all the men will tell you because their wives are GREAT.
3ème étape
Orbe
In Orbe, you can discover one of the most beautiful collections of Roman mosaics in Northern Europe, relax on the castle esplanade, climb the round tower for a unique panorama of the region, or recharge your batteries with a nature walk in the nearby Orbe gorges.
However, Orbe is not just a medieval town focused on its rich past. It is also a sustainable city with the «Gold City of Energy» label, declared a «cantonal strategic agri-food site,» and has successfully developed its industrial zone and economic sector with the establishment of large international companies and regional SMEs.
Besides its historical heritage and natural beauty, the town has other great assets: its 8,000 inhabitants and its vibrant community organizations. Thanks to numerous cultural and sports clubs like the Vélo Club Orbe, and the volunteerism and dynamism of their members, community life is very active in Orbe. This is undoubtedly why it's a great place to live!
4ème étape
Départ Broc
Broc, in the heart of La Gruyère, is a village where tradition and gastronomy meet at the foot of the Pre-Alps. Known throughout Switzerland for its chocolate heritage, it offers a warm setting between the shores of Lake Montsalvens and its green slopes. Here, craftsmanship, nature, and the peaceful rhythm of Gruyère villages create an authentic and welcoming landscape. The start of the queen stage in 2026 will allow visitors to experience the energy of the Tour up close with the riders, while discovering a region deeply tied to quality of life, local flavors, and renowned expertise. Broc proudly opens its doors to launch an exceptional day in the heart of La Gruyère.
4ème étape
Arrivée Charmey
Charmey, in the Jogne Valley, has already written several significant pages in the history of the Tour de Romandie. From 1973 to 2012, the village repeatedly hosted decisive stage finishes, confirming its status as an ideal setting for demanding routes. Surrounded by forests, ridges, and high-altitude pastures, the resort offers a pre-Alpine landscape where the terrain naturally shapes the effort. The finish of the queen stage in 2026 continues this tradition: a mountain day, challenging and spectacular, where elevation gain will play a central role. Spectators and fans will thrill to the successive passages of the riders before the final sprint to the finish line. Charmey is delighted to once again welcome the Tour in this authentic and vibrant setting.
5ème étape
Départ Lucens
Lucens is a municipality located in the canton of Vaud, in the Broye vaudoise region. It benefits from a pleasant natural environment, characterized by agricultural landscapes and green spaces, which contribute to a peaceful living environment. The Château de Lucens, an emblematic monument, recalls the rich historical past of the municipality and constitutes an important landmark.
Sport plays an important role in communal life and contributes to the well-being of the population. The municipality provides suitable sports facilities, enabling the practice of various physical activities for both young people and adults. Local clubs play an essential role in fostering commitment, teamwork, and good fellowship.
5ème étape
Arrivée Leysin
Perched at an altitude of 1,260 meters, Leysin reveals a magnificent panorama of the Valais and Bernese Alps, the Rhône Valley, and even the summit of Mont Blanc. A quintessential family resort, it combines unspoiled nature, modern infrastructure, and a warm alpine atmosphere that appeals to both sports enthusiasts and lovers of wide-open spaces.
At the summit of La Berneuse, at 2,048 meters, stands the Kuklos, the famous revolving restaurant offering a 360° view of the surrounding mountain ranges. It is also one of the preferred starting points for exploring the hiking and biking trails that make the resort famous.
Leysin is also a real hotspot for mountain biking enthusiasts. Its Bike Park, known for its meticulously crafted trails, offers five descents spread across three difficulty levels: a playground that is both challenging and fun. Starting in spring 2026, the offerings will expand even further with the arrival of new flow trails, designed to make the discipline more accessible and enjoyable, even for the youngest riders.
Adventure enthusiasts are not left out: via ferrata at Plan-Praz or Tour d'Aï, a variety of climbing sites, sporty trails... The mountains are experienced here in all their forms, from a simple contemplative step to pure adrenaline.
A year-round destination, Leysin charms with its diversity. Whether you come seeking performance, disconnection, or family fun, everyone finds their rhythm here—always with the magic of a breathtaking Alpine setting.
